Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics will hold a free online debate on Monday, February 22, at 7 pm, about tax reform and development in the Amazon.

The event will look at tax reform proposals under way in Congress, Brazil’s tax system, the role of development in the Amazon region and regional development, tax and environmental issues, ways of encouraging the clean economy and the Manaus Free Trade Zone’s tax incentives, among other subjects.

This is the second edition of the Amazon Dialogues, a digital platform to discuss topics related to sustainable socioeconomic development in Brazil’s Amazon region with organized civil society. Twenty meetings will be held in all, featuring private sector leaders, experts, public officials, academics and multidisciplinary personalities from all parts of Brazil. 

The event’s guest speakers will be Vanessa Canado, special advisor to the Economy Ministry and a professor at INSPER; Everardo Maciel, former Federal Revenue Service secretary and renowned tax consultant; and Adriana Fernandes, a journalist and columnist for O Estado de São Paulo. The debaters will be Márcio Holland, the coordinator of the Sao Paulo School of Economics’ master’s in finance and economics; Daniel Vargas, the research director of FGVAgro; and Rodemarck Castello Branco, Professor at UFAM.
