On June 24, starting at 6 pm, officials and experts will take part in a webinar called “COVID Fund: Measures to Mitigate the Coronavirus Crisis’ Impacts on the Power Sector.” The event, organized by FGV Energy, will feature the president of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Gustavo Montezanno; the director general of the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL), André Pepitone da Nóbrega; ANEEL director Elisa Bastos; the chairman of the Electricity Sales Board (CCEE), Rui Altieri; and CCEE board member Rose Santos.
The regulations to implement Provisional Decree 950 of 2020, published on May 18, provide for the creation of a “COVID Fund” to receive resources to cover electricity concession-holding companies’ losses and make up for their lost revenue. The aim of the decree is to maintain the health of the entire Brazilian power sector.
The regulations governing the COVID Fund were the subject of Public Consultation 35 of 2020, which was held to collect suggestions and additional information to improve the draft resolution proposed by ANEEL’s board.
The webinar will discuss ANEEL’s main decisions so far and CCEE’s credit and management operations for the COVID Fund. The moderators will be the director of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Center for Regulation and Infrastructure Studies (FGV CERI), Joisa Dutra; and FGV Energy legal consultant Gustavo de Marchi.
