ESG agenda: Online event looks at digital engineering as decarbonization tool

FGV Executive Education is holding a webinar called “Digital Engineering as an Accelerator of the Decarbonization and ESG Agendas in Projects in the Amazon.” This public event will take place on May 18, at 6 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel. The webinar will discuss the application and integration of digital engineering, corporate sustainability and advances on the ESG agenda.

The discussions will center around the case of the Alunorte Fuel Switch Project, an energy transition initiative in the Amazon, which aims to replace the use of heavy fuel oil with natural gas to power seven calciners and six boilers in one of the region’s largest alumina refineries.

The event will feature the vice president for professional development of the PMI Project’s Amazon Chapter, Jaques Paes, who will present the Alunorte Fuel Switch Project, showing how an integrated vision can accelerate improvements in productivity and performance in industrial and sustainability initiatives; and Norsk Hidro’s project control manager, Vitor Verly, who will show how digital engineering has been applied as a critical success factor in implementing the project and his company’s green ambitions on the sustainability and decarbonization agenda.

The webinar will also look at the future direction of the ESG and sustainability agendas in Brazil and present challenges and conflicts as companies and governments adopt sustainability-oriented practices and methodologies. Fabricio Stocker, a professor, consultant and graduate academic coordinator at Fundação Getulio Vargas, will moderate the event and discuss how FGV can support and promote the construction and application of key content related to the ESG agenda.
