Event explores digital media and coverage of conflicts
This event will reflect on how social media has impacted this coverage and the biggest challenge that digital communication has posed to war journalism.

Digital media and information consumption have changed the dynamics of communication structures in general. In this context, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI) is holding an event called “The Wind Changed Direction: How Digital Media Impacts Coverage of Conflicts.” This public event will occur on March 8, at the FGV Cultural Center, at 3 pm and it will be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel. It will take place in English.
Coverage of conflicts, war journalism and international politics have adapted to the new speed of communication, bringing real-time video content to society. This event will reflect on how social media has impacted this coverage and the biggest challenge that digital communication has posed to war journalism.
To talk about this subject, FGV ECMI has invited Baker Atyani, a United Nations award-winning journalist who interviewed terrorist Osama Bin Laden two months before the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001; and Simone Duarte, a journalist and the author of the book “O Vento Mudou de Direção” (“The Wind Changed Direction”). The moderator will be Marcelo Lins, GloboNews presenter and commentator. The MC will be Amaro Grassi, FGV ECMI project coordinator.
