Experts gather for first FGV Energy Advisory Board meeting

FGV Energy held its first Advisory Board meeting on November 22. Bringing together the biggest names in the domestic energy industry, the Board aims to promote debate on the energy industry, discuss the impact of the economy on the industry, and provide strategic guidance to FGV Energy’s research agenda, in addition to discussing and proposing ideas for the future of the unit’s research.

The opening ceremony was led by FGV’s vice president, Sergio Franklin Quintella, who stressed the importance and the relevant contributions already made to the industry, despite its young age. During the event, the Superintendent of Education and Research at FGV Energy, Felipe Gonçalves, presented FGV Energy’s current three research tracks: ‘oil, gas, and biofuels;’ ‘electricity industry;’ and ‘energy integration.’

Next, FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE) researcher, Silvia Matos, presented an overview of Brazil’s economy, highlighting the signs of an impending economic recovery – a fundamental condition for the development of the national energy system. In addition, professor Guilherme Casarões, from FGV’s Center for International Relations, portrayed the national political landscape for the 2018 elections.

At the end of the event, Marcio Zimmermann was appointed as General Secretary of the Advisory Board. It was also established that the meetings will be held on a quarterly basis. The Board includes Altino Ventura, André Araújo, Carlos Langoni, Carlo Zorzoli, David Zylbersztajn, José Luiz Alquéres, Mario Santos, and Nelson Narciso.
