FGV Energy was invited by Serra do Facão Energia S.A. to present research and development projects and received the green light for two specific projects. One of them, ‘Selection of Technological Route for Integrated Energy Use of Forest Timber Waste from Deforestation of Reservoirs and Pruning of Trees with Industrial Wood Waste’, will be carried out during the applied research phase of the innovation chain to investigate and select the most suitable technological route for integrated energy use of forest timber waste with industrial wood waste.

The other project, ‘Energy use of biogas obtained from anaerobic biodigestion of cattle manure with added organic effluents from agribusiness’, will be carried out during the experimental development phase of the innovation chain. The project will be carried out at a country estate in Catalão to test the effects of the combination of local agribusiness production processes on the productivity of the biodigestion process of cattle manure. The study will assess the effects of combining waste from local production processes across local dairy factories, cattle slaughterhouses, and landfills, as well as ethanol and sugar plants, if possible. Along with the deployment of the experimental unit, catalyst addition tests will be carried out in a reduced model with bench reactor. The mixtures featuring the best technical, economic, and environmental results will be tested in the experimental unit to assess effective results in real scale.

In both projects, FGV Energy will be supported by Jordão Engenharia LTDA and Federal University of Goiás (UFG) – Catalão Unit, with which it has formalized the respective agreements already published in the Brazilian Official Federal Gazette. In the first project, FGV Energy will also partner with Instituto SENAI de Inovação Química Verde (ISI-QV), with which it is about to formalize a Technical Cooperation Agreement. In the second project, FGV Energy will also partner with the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro (UENF).
