FGV professors participate in 47th Annual Meeting of ANPOCS
Themes of digital communication and politics were present in all the discussions.

Several professors from Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI) took part in the 47th Annual Meeting of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences (ANPOCS). The meeting was held between October 18 and 20 in virtual format and between October 25 and 27 in person at Campinas State University in Campinas, Sao Paulo.
During the event, Professor Victor Piaia coordinated a graduate research symposium called “Mediatization, platformization and political discourse,” alongside Natasha Bachini of the University of Sao Paulo, on Wednesday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. On Friday, October 20, professors Sabrina Almeida, Dalby Dienstbach and Lucas Roberto presented their paper titled “Hyper-partisan channels, the repertoire of political action and the contest for visibility in the 2022 Brazilian elections” to ANPOCS’ Media and Politics Working Group, during a session called “Media, Behavior and Elections.”
On October 26, during the in-person part of the meeting, professors Maria Sirleidy Cordeiro, Dalby Dienstbach and Polyana Barboza presented their paper titled “The agribusiness discursive dispute on Facebook: A socio-cognitive approach” to ANPOCS’ Internet, Politics and Culture Working Group, during a session called “Internet, Politics and Culture.”
“This study mapped and analyzed the meanings underlying the discursive dispute involving agribusiness in news links circulating on Facebook. We saw that, on the subject of agribusiness on social networks, messages related to economics and hunger stand out, for example,” explained Professor Maria Sirleidy Cordeiro, one of the latter study’s authors.
The National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences brings together more than a hundred graduate and research centers in the fields of anthropology, political science, international relations and sociology from all over Brazil.
