IX Seminar on Energy Network and Security brings together officials and specialists in Rio

Leading energy sector specialists and officials will gather on October 29 for the IX Seminar on Energy Network and Security. Organized by FGV Energy, the event will take place at the FGV Cultural Center (Praia de Botafogo 186, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro) from 9 am to 7 pm. The speakers will include Roberto Castello Branco, the CEO of Petrobras; Décio Odone, the director general of the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP); Alexandre Barreto de Souza, the president of the Brazilian Antitrust Regulatory Agency (CADE); Renata Isfer, of the Mining and Energy Ministry; and Adriano Pires, the president of the Brazilian Infrastructure Center (CBIE).

Following opening remarks by FGV’s president, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, FGV Energy’s director, Carlos Octávio Quintella, and Fernando Coelho, a federal representative and former mining and energy minister, Petrobras CEO Roberto Castello Branco will deliver the keynote speech, describing the oil company’s divestment plan.

Industry experts will then have a discussion about oil and gas, covering subjects such as the opening up of the Brazilian gas market, pre-salt and the upcoming transfer-of-rights auction, other opportunities in Brazil, the country’s evolution and current position in the context of sector transformations, exports and imports of liquefied natural gas, and Brazil’s position in global energy markets.

In the second part of the seminar, talks will be given by international guests. Colin Clearly, of US Energy Diplomacy in Latin America, will start off by sharing his observations about the energy sector. Carlos Pascual, of IHS Markit, will then present the geopolitical prospects for the oil market and he will interview Fatih Birol, of the International Energy Agency. This block will also feature a presentation by Giovanna Victer, the Niterói municipal finance secretary, who will talk about the revitalization of the oil and gas chain as an opportunity to instrumentalize public policies for development and prosperity.

The last discussion of the event will be dedicated to electricity. The participants will discuss the prospects for new clean electricity sources, Brazil’s revamped power sector model, power purchasing models, energy efficiency, opportunities in the new gas market for the development of Brazil’s power system, and Eletrobras’ role in the energy transition and in the expansion of the national grid.
