On April 26, FGV Energy will hold a webinar called Energy Geopolitics, to debate political and geographical circumstances that affect the volatility of oil prices in the international markets. The speakers will be federal representative and former mining and energy minister Fernando Coelho Filho; the senior vice president of global energy at IHS Markit, Carlos Pascual; and the director of the Energy Program for Latin America at the Baker Fellow Institute, Francisco Monaldi. The event will be moderated by Fernanda Delgado, a strategic advisor and researcher at FGV Energy.
Among other topics, the webinar will look at the significant recent increase in oil prices, driven by geopolitical factors such as the cold spell in the Northern Hemisphere and tensions in the Middle East, responsible for a drop in production and high demand. Other issues that also contributed to the price increase, such as global vaccination campaigns and the resumption of OPEC+’s discretionary power, will also be analyzed, in addition to the use of renewable energy sources and their impact in the current context of power generation.
