Third EU-LAC Journalists’ Forum brings together professionals from Latin America and Europe
2024 edition is being held in partnership with School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI) and its theme is “Opportunities and Challenges for Communication Amid Digital Transformation”.

Professionals from Latin America and Europe are coming together for the third edition of the EU-LAC Journalists’ Forum, organized by the EU-LAC Foundation in partnership with Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI). This public event will take place on June 7, at 9:30 a.m., in hybrid format, transmitted online via YouTube, with simultaneous interpretation between English and Spanish.
The meeting aims to promote the sharing of experiences and discuss the opportunities and challenges that digital transformation presents for journalism, focusing on topics such as the use of artificial intelligence and the fight against disinformation.
Titled “Opportunities and Challenges for Communication Amid Digital Transformation,” the seminar, which starts at 9.30 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m., will feature panel discussions, talks and case study sessions. Journalist Leila Sterenberg will moderate the event, which will begin with a panel discussion called “Regulatory Structures for the Use of AI: The Cases of Brazil and the European Union.” Elinor Wahal of the European Commission’s AI Policy Development and Coordination Unit and Lílian Cintra de Melo, digital rights secretary at the Brazilian Justice and Public Security Ministry, will debate this topic.
Representatives of media outlets and other organizations linked to news coverage, namely AFP, Deutsche Welle, Reporters Without Borders, Aos Fatos, Canal Meio and the Globo group, will also be present.
Other institutions and research centers related to the topics discussed at the event will also take part. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) will be represented by its head of data and research, Delphine Reuter. Professor Natalie Helberg of the University of Amsterdam and Patricia Ventura, a researcher at Barcelona Autonomous University, have also confirmed their attendance.
