Vestibular (Entrance Examination): Graduation in Data Science is this year’s innovation
Throughout the course, students will have contact with issues that involve Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Natural Language Processing, and Visualization, as well as applications in Epidemiology, Economics and Finance, etc.

Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) has just launched the undergraduate course in Data Science, in Rio de Janeiro, with the aim of transforming the professional horizon of young students who wish to pursue an innovative, modern and impactful career in today’s world. The program is one of the innovations of the FGV Entrance Examination, which started on Monday, July 1, for the 2020 selection process.
Offered by FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp), the program aims to equip students with the skills and competencies required to work in technology, retail, investment banking, nongovernmental organizations, consulting, multinational companies, media, and communication, in addition to careers in research.
“The new course in Data Science will offer its students an innovative trajectory for their training as data scientists. Being the first course in Brazil in this field, the purpose is to guarantee the excellence of our graduation. Our students will be trained to be more than just users of ready-made packages – they will learn all the mathematical, statistical and computational fundamentals necessary to carry out this modern profession,” said Professor Yuri Saporito, coordinator of the course.
Throughout the course, students will have contact with issues that involve Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Natural Language Processing, and Visualization, as well as applications in Epidemiology, Economics and Finance, etc. The program also opens space for topics of multidisciplinary research in fields such as Social Sciences and Politics and Law, among others.
Another differentiator of the degree in Data Science is the fact that the program addresses a vast repertoire of concepts, methods and techniques in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing, which enable future professionals to provide advisory services and conduct qualified assessments of data sets, in addition to producing, managing and analyzing large databases. In order to achieve these goals, the course places students in a leading position in their own learning process, enabling the implementation of models and techniques discussed in real cases, presenting and debating results, and, subsequently, strengthening essential skills for the current labor market.
Registrations for the entrance examination of the graduation in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence can be made until October 8, at 6:00 p.m., through the FGV Entrance Examination website, with special conditions for those who register by August 9, at 6:00 p.m. Those interested can sign up for new course through the Entrance Examination (32 vacancies) and ENEM (8 vacancies).
Please visit the Entrance Examination website for more information about the selection process for the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence course and for other FGV undergraduate courses.
