Webinar focuses on fight against deforestation in the Amazon
The Amazon is essential to global climate balance and its disappearance would have devastating consequences worldwide. To discuss this critical issue, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI) is holding a webinar called “Preserving the Amazon – The importance of Combating Deforestation for the World.” This public event will take place on September 28, at 6 p.m., on FGV’s YouTube channel.
The meeting will bring together experts who will address the underlying causes of deforestation and illegal activities in the Amazon, including logging, agricultural expansion and mining.
The role of indigenous communities and traditional populations in preserving the forest and the need for global initiatives to protect this Brazilian biome and encourage sustainable practices will also be debated.
Sabrina Almeida, a professor at FGV ECMI, will moderate the webinar. The guest speakers will be Paulina Chamorro, a journalist and documentary maker; Cristiane Mazzetti, coordinator of Greenpeace Brasil’s Zero Deforestation initiative; and Renata Koch Alvarenga, founder of EmpoderaClima.
