Workshop discusses challenges and limitations for development of solar industry in Brazil

Solar thermal energy is now a viable, safe and clean technology in Brazil. To discuss this subject and debate the real challenges and limitations for the development of the solar industry in Brazil, FGV Energy will hold a “Solar Thermal Energy Workshop” on December 4, at 9 am. The event will take place in the 12th-floor auditorium in FGV’s main building at Praia de Botafogo, 190, Rio de Janeiro.

The workshop will begin with an introduction to the potential of thermal solar energy technologies in Brazil, better known internationally as concentrated solar power (CSP). Following this, there will be a roundtable discussion in which experts will debate prospects for CSP in Brazil. A second roundtable will then discuss the role of universities and research and development in promoting CSP technology in the country.

In the afternoon, the workshop will resume with a discussion about the solar thermal energy value chain. Speakers will give information about the industrial sector and discuss the challenges for the future development of technology. Finally, there will be a panel discussion to present major CSP research and development projects in Brazil.

The event will feature leading market players such as Bernardo Folly, of the Energy Research Company (EPE); Ailson de Souza Barbosa, of the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL); Antonio de Abreu, of the Mining and Energy Ministry; Ary Pinto, of the Electricity Trading Chamber (CCEE); and Luiz Antônio Pinto, of the Brazilian Thermal Solar Energy Association (Abrasol).
