Students from eight states take part in summer course at FGV
The event, held in Rio de Janeiro, brought together young talents from all over Brazil to immerse themselves in various areas of knowledge.
Between January 13 and 17, 2025, the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), through the Center for the Development of Mathematics and Sciences (FGV CDMC) and the School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp), held the third edition of the Talent Selection Summer Course. The event took place at FGV's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro and was attended by 51 students from eight Brazilian states.
Among the students selected for the program were representatives from different Brazilian states, including Espírito Santo. The Espírito Santo students Melissa Romão de Souza, Maurício da Silva Martinez Filho, Livia Helena da Silva Estevão Araújo, Murilo Coser Rocha and Diogo Kock Leng Venade da Costa were accompanied by the coordinator of the Mathematics on the Net Program, Wellington Azevedo.

The Federal Institute of Minas Gerais (IFMG) was represented by Frederico Taveira Martins de Souza, from the Industrial Automation technical course, and Maria Eduarda Loschi Xavier, from the Metallurgy technical course.
For Frederico, taking part in the Course gave him the opportunity to get to know one of the best higher education institutions in Brazil, opening up a new range of options for continuing his studies. Maria Eduarda stressed the importance of this talent course for students, especially those from public schools, providing a few days of learning with leading professors at an excellent institution.
Professor Thiago Neves Mendonça, coordinator of the Mathematics department at IFMG, emphasized the impact of the course on the students' trajectory: “This event makes it possible to broaden the students' academic horizons, allowing them to experience new realities and explore different areas of knowledge. The partnership between educational institutions further strengthens the commitment to educational quality and the training of young talent.”
The program
The course provided an immersive experience for the students, who had access to classes in various areas of knowledge, including Mathematics, Probability, Artificial Intelligence, Computing, Data Science, Law, Economics and Finance, Grammar, Literature and Writing. In addition, participants took part in problem-solving workshops taught by professors from FGV and other higher education institutions in the country.
The third edition of the Talent Selection Summer Course reinforces FGV's mission to be a center of excellence in teaching and research, stimulating innovation and the search for knowledge.
