All FGV schools given maximum possible rating by INEP

All Fundação Getulio Vargas’ schools were given the maximum possible score (5) in the 2021 General Course Index (IGC), a higher education quality indicator calculated by the Brazilian Education Ministry’s National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP). In the ranking of Brazil’s best higher education institutions, released on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 28, the top three are all part of FGV. They are the School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC), the Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) and the Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP), which took first, second and third slots, respectively.

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ other schools that were evaluated in this edition of IGC also obtained the maximum possible score of 5. The Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE) was ranked eighth in the country. The other FGV schools that received a score of 5 were the Sao Paulo Law School, Rio de Janeiro Law School and Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP).

“FGV’s schools achieved extraordinary results, thanks to their continuous work, which has given them top spots in the IGC ranking for the last 11 years. FGV obtained the highest IGC scores in all areas of knowledge in which it operates, confirming its status as the world’s third most influential think tank. FGV CPDOC received the highest score in the country and this is a source of pride. Today, the school is teaching and doing research with various indigenous tribes, as well as working with diversity and female collectives, sharing knowledge throughout Brazil. This reflects the fact that FGV is an education institution that is deeply interested in multiple topics related to the country’s development,” said FGV’s Provost for Education, Research and Graduate Studies, Professor Antonio Freitas.

According to information on INEP’s website, IGC takes the following aspects into account: average Preliminary Course Scores in the latest cycle of the National Student Performance Exam (ENADE), the average score for master’s and doctoral courses awarded by the Brazilian Education Ministry’s graduate education support agency, CAPES, in its latest assessment, and the breakdown of students between undergraduate and graduate levels. In the latest IGC ranking, based on 2021 data, 2,012 education institutions were evaluated, accounting for 77.7% of all active institutions in the 2021 Higher Education Census. To calculate the indicator, the Preliminary Course Scores of 23,585 courses in 2018, 2019 and 2021 were used, as well as the 2021 CAPES ratings of 4,834 master’s and doctoral programs.
