Brazil’s General Price Index advances in January

The General Price Index - 10 (IGP-10) for Brazil varied 0.88% in January. The December rate was 0.20%, varying 0.69% compared to January 2016. The indicator was up 7.15% year over year. The IGP-10 is calculated by FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE) based on prices surveyed from the 11th day of the previous month to the 10thday of the current month.
The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) varied 1.08% in January. A variation of 0.22% was recorded in December. The Final Goods category varied 0.53% in January, compared to -0.44% in December. The main reason behind such variation was the fresh foods subgroup, which varied from -5.52% to -0.74%.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) varied 0.54% in January, compared to 0.09% in December. All expense categories that comprise the index recorded higher price variations, particularly the Food group (0.00% to 0.66%). Within this expense category, it is important to highlight the behavior of the vegetables item (-5.91% to -1.37%).
The National Construction Cost Index (INCC) varied 0.30% in January, compared to 0.31% in the previous month. The Materials, Equipment, and Services item varied 0.17%. The rate was 0.05% in the previous month. The Manpower cost category was up 0.41%. This category varied 0.52% in the previous month.
