DIREITO RIO launches with Fundação Ford a book about the UPPs

On October 3 the book UPPs, Rights and Justices: a case study of the Vidigal and Cantagalo shanty towns was launched by DIREITO RIO's teacher Fabiana Luci de Oliveira with Maria Tereza Sadek, Pedro Vieira Abramovay and Izabel Nuñez. The book - a partnership with Ford Foundation - provides a dense description of the living conditions in the shanty towns of Cantagalo and Vidigal, from the perception, habits and attitudes of residents towards the existence and enforcement of rights, the conflict experience and the resolution channels sought.Besides the perspective of residents, the text expresses the manifestation of other authors' voices working in these locations, as members of NGOs and social movements, community leaders, public officials and government authorities. The discussion is illustrated with photographs taken by locals, who collaborated on the research.
