“Employability Cycle” focuses on mentoring graduate law students
The “FGV LAW” non-degree graduate courses at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo Law School are made up of a set of compulsory and optional subjects that, as well as reinforcing students’ technical repertoire, encourage them to develop the skills and abilities necessary for success in today’s legal job market. In addition to these curricular components, FGV LAW also offers its students a series of events called the Employability Cycle.
Consisting of a series of meetings organized by the FGV Sao Paulo Law School’s professional guidance and careers team, the Employability Cycle includes resume workshops, practice interviews, speaking workshops, a LinkedIn profile assessment and conversations with headhunters and employers – all with the aim of offering the program’s students guidance on the job market and how to best handle recruitment processes. “The Employability Cycle provides students with a better understanding of their professional goals and individual potential, so that their search for new opportunities is based on guided choices,” says Maria Cláudia Couto, FGV LAW’s academic coordinator.
The Employability Cycle meetings are advertised to students throughout the year. In the first half of 2024, workshops on resumes, LinkedIn profiles and public speaking techniques for selection processes were held in-person and virtually. The resume workshop was attended by 35 students and covered essential topics for designing a competitive resume, such as how to describe academic qualifications and professional experience, how to highlight skills in previous experiences and formatting tips. The LinkedIn workshop was attended by 28 students and dealt with tools that increase the visibility of profiles, how to improve the layout of pages, and best practices for using the platform and actively searching for vacancies. During the event on public speaking techniques for selection processes, 24 students discussed the best strategies and approaches in professional recruitment.
