Seminar discusses proposals for the reform of the Civil Code
The event brings together academics, authorities, and experts to discuss the proposed amendments in the field of Family Law and Law of Successions

In its third edition, the seminar Reforma do Código Civil em foco (Reform of the Civil Code in focus) is an initiative of FGV Justiça, under the coordination of Minister Luis Felipe Salomão, vice-president of the STJ, president of the Commission of Jurists for the reform of the Civil Code, and coordinator of FGV Justiça. The event, which is part of the permanent activities of the Lisbon Forum, brings together important names, such as academics, authorities, specialists, and members of the Commission of Jurists for the reform of the Civil Code to discuss the proposed amendments in the field of Family Law and Law of Successions. The meeting is free and open to the public.
On April 17, 2024, the commission of jurists created by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, concluded the review of the current proposal, aiming to update it and bring it up to modern standards. On January 31, 2025, Senator Rodrigo Pacheco submitted the bill for the reform of the Civil Code. Bill PL 4/2025 was based on the preliminary draft prepared by the Commission of Jurists, chaired by Minister Luis Felipe Salomão.
Among the guests are Minister Nancy Andrighi, Minister of the Superior Court of Justice, who will deliver the keynote speech of the event; Minister Antonio Saldanha Palheiro, Minister of the Superior Court of Justice and academic coordinator of FGV Justiça; Jacqueline Lima Montenegro, judge at the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro; Maria Berenice Dias, retired judge of the Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Sul, vice-president of the Brazilian Institute of Family Law (IBDFAM) and member of the subcommittee on family law for the reform of the Civil Code (Senate Federal, 2023/2024); Rolf Madaleno, professor of family law and successions in the postgraduate program at PUC-RS, member of the subcommittee on family law for the reform of the Civil Code (Senate Federal, 2023/2024) and lawyer; Gustavo Tepedino, Full Professor of Civil Law at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), member of the subcommittee on law of successions for the reform of the Civil Code (Senate Federal, 2023/2024) and lawyer; Mário Luiz Delgado, president of the Commission on Legislative Affairs of IBDFAM, member of the subcommittee on law of successions for the reform of the Civil Code (Senate Federal, 2023/2024) and lawyer.
Fernanda Tartuce, professor in the Master’s Program, coordinator and faculty member in specialization courses at the Escola Paulista de Direito, lawyer, and mediator; and Rodrigo Mudrovitsch, lawyer, vice-president and judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, professor of Public Law at IDP, and partial rapporteur of the subcommittee on the general part for the reform of the Civil Code (Senate Federal, 2023/2024) will be the panel moderators.
The promotion of this meeting corroborates FGV Justiça's commitment to contribute to the improvement and enhancement of the Brazilian justice system.
