FGV DAPP’s director participates in Election Transparency Observatory

Marco Ruediger, the director of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP), has joined a group of specialists set up by the Superior Electoral Court to monitor Brazil’s 2022 elections. On September 8, given the need to ensure a more secure and transparent election process, the court’s president, Luis Roberto Barroso, created the Election Transparency Commission and Election Transparency Observatory.

The Election Transparency Observatory will be made up of various civil society institutions “with a recognized track record in the areas of technology, human rights, democracy and political science”, including FGV DAPP, represented by its director, Marco Ruediger.

The Election Transparency Commission’s goals are to increase transparency and security in all stages of election preparation and execution; expand the participation of specialists, civil society organizations and public institutions in overseeing and auditing the electoral process; and help restore the integrity of the electoral process.

In turn, the Election Transparency Observatory will work with the Election Transparency Commission and Superior Electoral Court to increase transparency in all stages of the electoral process, increase public knowledge about the Brazilian voting system and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. FGV DAPP’s first role in this process was to participate in an event called “Cycle of Democratic Transparency for the 2022 Elections” on October 4, 2021.
