Every year, Fundação Getulio Vargas opens up its doors to students who are nearing the end of high school, to let them get to know its facilities, learn about its undergraduate courses and get a firsthand feeling for what it’s like to be an FGV student for a day. The idea is to offer an immersive experience at the institution and answer questions from both parents and students about career choices, higher education decisions and the programs offered by FGV.

FGV Experience was held last week in Brasilia (on August 15), Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo (on August 19). During the event, FGV’s different undergraduate programs were presented in detail. The participants had the opportunity to learn about:

  • the distinctive features of FGV’s different schools;
  • FGV’s international programs;
  • available scholarships;
  • the different learning methodologies used;
  • FGV’s double degree programs.

The prospective university students also toured FGV’s facilities, visiting its classrooms, study rooms and social areas. Most important, they could experience what it is like to be an FGV student for a day, learn about different teaching methods and discover what is really learned in each course. The event also had explanatory stands where the high school students could ask professors questions.

“FGV Experience is the most important event in our university admission process cycle, as it lets high school students get a practical taste of everything our undergraduate programs have to offer. We put our entire infrastructure – professors, administrative teams, classrooms, event spaces and social areas – at their disposal, so they can have a special experience. We were among the first to run this type of initiative in Brazil and it plays a decisive role in helping these young people choose FGV’s undergraduate courses,” said Marcos Facó, FGV’s communication and marketing director.

This year’s meeting was a great success. In Sao Paulo, it was attended by 310 high school students and 415 people in all, adding in current university students (including representatives of 16 student organizations), professors, alumni and companions. Five undergraduate courses were presented:

  • Business Administration;
  • Public Administration;
  • Law;
  • Economics;
  • International Relations.

In Rio de Janeiro, the event was attended by 160 high school students and more than 250 people in total, including representatives of 16 student organizations, FGV’s Education Support Center and its Internship and Career Development Center. The participants had the opportunity to learn about seven undergraduate programs offered in the city:

  • Administration;
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence;
  • Social Sciences;
  • Digital Communication;
  • Law;
  • Economics;
  • Applied Mathematics.

In Brasilia, FGV Experience was attended by 11 high school students, who learned about the following courses:

  • Business Administration;
  • Public Administration.

The high school students stressed the quality of the event, the talks by professors and their immersion in the FGV world for a day before they go to university. Davi Oliveira, a student interested in studying law, said he really liked the event and was enchanted by FGV’s facilities. “I really enjoyed the event and learned a lot. I was my first time here. I love the building and the experience of being here. I’ve learned a lot, especially about the subject I’m interested in, law. FGV will definitely be one of my options,” he said.

Rafael Lannes came to the event to learn about FGV’s administration course. He highlighted the excellence of FGV’s faculty and the international career opportunities provided by the program. “I found the university very interesting, as the professors seem to be of the highest caliber. FGV has wonderful infrastructure and I think it’s a great option to consider, because it offers various advantages compared to other colleges, such as being able to study abroad. This interests me a lot and I really liked what the administration course offers,” he said.

According to Renata Tomaz, the undergraduate program coordinator at the School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI) in Rio de Janeiro, this event is important to high school students, as it helps them feel part of the institution. “I think it’s fundamental for FGV to open its doors to high school students and give them the opportunity to experience FGV’s environment and culture, and also come into contact with their potential future professors and classmates. This means they can imagine being here and that helps a lot when they choose what and where to study,” she said.
