FGV, Fiocruz and Queen Mary University join forces to structure multidisciplinary research projects

FGV, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (known as Fiocruz) and Queen Mary University of London are embarking on a new phase of their partnership. On August 29, 30 and 31, they will have a workshop at the offices of FGV and Fiocruz in Rio de Janeiro to design and launch a new strategic fund for multidisciplinary research, called the Brazil Accelerator Fund.

The aim of this meeting is to harness synergies between the institutions and to strengthen and deepen their existing partnership for future research projects.

The workshop’s opening session on August 29 was attended by representatives of the three institutions: Professor Colin Grant of Queen Mary University, Professor Rodrigo Correa of Fiocruz and Professor Goret Pereira Paulo of FGV. The British consul general in Rio de Janeiro, Anjoum Noorani, spoke about the importance of this evolving partnership, which will generate research projects with major benefits for society.

Researchers from all FGV’s schools, Fiocruz and Queen Mary University are taking part in person in the three-day workshop in Rio. Researchers in London and other parts of Brazil are also participating remotely. There will be presentations and discussions about health, mathematical modeling, economics, law, digital prospects, public policies, multilateral legal structures, and insurance and risk.

On the third and final day of the event, there will be a ceremony at which the three institutions will sign a memorandum of understanding, as well as a visit to the “Moorish Castle,” as Fiocruz’s main building in Rio de Janeiro is known.
