FGV hosts 2nd edition of Jean Monnet course on Compared Regionalism
The course promotes teaching, research, and reflection on subjects related to European integration.
Supported by the European Commission, FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) will host the second edition of the Compared Regionalism course. Under the Jean Monnet Program, the course promotes teaching, research, and reflection on subjects related to European integration. Registrations are open until February 8 and classes start on the 15th. Registrations are free and open to undergraduate and graduate students from any institution.
In addition to studying about the European Union, participants will also have an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in International Law, International Organizations Law, and Human Rights, among other integration systems, such as Mercosur, Andean Community, Central American Integration System, and Pacific Alliance. The Chair also builds knowledge networks with other Jean Monnet Chairs in Europe and other continents, sharing ideas and promoting research among its participants, in addition to disseminating teaching and research activities carried out at Fundação Getulio Vargas.
Coordinated by Professor of International and European Law, Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, who holds FGV’s Jean Monnet Chair, the course also features FGV professors and international guests, particularly from Free University of Brussels (Belgium), Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (Ecuador), University College of London (UK), and Universidad Austral (Argentina). In addition to advising research projects on subjects related to European integration and encouraging new generations of professors and researchers, the Chair’s professors prepare students to enter the global job market, which shows an increasing demand for professionals capable of handling different legal systems and the specific rules of all 28 member countries within the European Union.
The choice for Rio de Janeiro Law School to receive the Jean Monnet Chair represents the recognition of the Jean Monnet Module, which attracted a growing number of students from FGV and other educational institutions in its five editions. Part of the Chair since September 2015, the School received the block’s approval to foster teaching and research on European integration across the legal, political, and economic fields.
