International seminar discusses recovery of oil and gas activities in Brazil

In partnership with the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association Brazil (ABRAN) and the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) and FGV Energy will host the “3rd Brazilian-Norwegian Seminar – Recovery of oil and gas activities in Brazil, new technological trends, and impacts to the regulation of the maritime and offshore sector” on September 25, between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The event will be held in the auditorium of FGV’s main office (Praia de Botafogo, 190. 12th floor – Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro/RJ).

The opening ceremony will include the Dean of Direito Rio, professor Sérgio Guerra, the director of FGV Energy, Carlos Otavio Quintella, the President of ABRAN, Felipe Meira, the Norwegian Consul General, Sissel Hodne Steen, and the Norwegian Deputy Minister of Oil and Energy, Ingvil Smines Tybring-Gjedde, responsible for the opening lecture of the event, under the theme “Think Ocean – the importance of developing a coordinated and integrated energy policy and the impacts to the maritime and offshore sector”. Next, professor Sérgio Guerra will discuss “Brazil’s regulatory framework and the need to adapt to technological changes focused on the maritime and offshore sector”. The event will then feature the presentation panel: Brazil and Norway.

Experts from both countries will discuss the “challenges and opportunities generated by the recovery of oil and gas activities in an environment of increasing technological transformations and a higher concern with climate change”, moderated by Direito Rio professor Patrícia Sampaio. The Director of Ports and Coasts, Vice Admiral Roberto Gondim Carneiro da Cunha, will then talk about “The role of the Brazilian Maritime Authority and the challenges created by the recovery in oil and gas activities in Brazil”.

The director of the Brazilian National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ), Mario Povia, will present the “growth prospects of the maritime and offshore industry, new technologies, and the impacts to the market’s regulation by ANTAQ”. Finally, Lasse Karlsen, technical director of the Norwegian Maritime Authority, will speak about “The impact of new technologies in the maritime and offshore transportation industry, such as autonomous ships, under the perspective of the Norwegian Maritime Authority”; and Claudio Cesar de Araújo, executive manager of Good and Service Supply at Petrobras, will discuss “future prospects for Petrobras, new technology trends and impacts in the acquisition of goods and services in the maritime and offshore transportation sector”.
