Webinar discusses power market design in Brazil

On August 4, within the context of its Infrastructure Economics research area, the Professional Master’s in Economics and Finance Program (MFEE) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) will hold a webinar called “The Design of Electricity Markets.” The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 7 pm.
The speakers will be Luiz Augusto Barroso, the CEO of PSR, and Alexandre Street, a professor at Rio de Janeiro Catholic University and research director at LAMPS. The meeting’s moderator will be Professor Joisa Dutra, the director of FGV’s Center for Regulation and Infrastructure Studies (FGV CERI) and coordinator of FGV EPGE’s Professional Master’s in Economics and Finance Program.
The participants will discuss the ongoing profound transformation of the electricity sector, in Brazil and across the world, driven by the climate agenda and technological advances. These changes pose challenges and opportunities, forcing us to revisit prevailing commercial and operational arrangements in the pursuit of greater efficiency and competitiveness.
Since the Mining and Energy Ministry’s Public Consultation 33 of 2017, the sector’s restructuring process has been widely discussed, including a proposal to unbundle capacity and power products. The event seeks to contribute to debate on the construction of a new power market framework for Brazil.
