FGV Press book takes first place in 2024 ABEU Awards and receives special mention at event
As well as winning the prize, the book and its organizers received a special mention at the Eighth Research and Innovation Symposium.

A book called “Rule of Law and Authoritarian Populism: Institutional Erosion and Resistance in Brazil (2018-22)” came first in the Applied Social Sciences category at the 10th edition of the Brazilian Association of University Publishers (ABEU) Awards, one of the foremost initiatives to celebrate academic publishing in Brazil. Organized by Oscar Vilhena Vieira, Raquel de Mattos Pimenta, Fabio de Sa e Silva and Marta Rodriguez de Assis Machado, the book was published by FGV Press in 2023. It analyzes the challenges faced by the rule of law in Brazil’s recent political context.
The publication offers an in-depth reflection on the erosion and resistance of democratic institutions in the period between 2018 and 2022, highlighting the impact of authoritarian populism on governance structures and fundamental rights in Brazil. This award underscores the relevance and quality of the academic work carried out by FGV Press, which for 50 years has set the benchmark for knowledge dissemination in the country.
In addition to receiving this prestigious award, the book and its organizers were honored at the Eighth Research and Innovation Symposium, held on November 25, 2024 in FGV’s main building in Rio de Janeiro.
