The Getulio Vargas Foundation, through FGV Projetos, will support the municipality of Maceió (AL) in drawing up its new Urban Mobility Plan (PlanMob). The initiative aims to tackle the complex mobility challenges facing the capital of Alagoas by integrating innovative and sustainable solutions into urban planning.
PlanMob's pillars are the promotion of universal accessibility, safety and traffic fluidity. Among the actions planned are the implementation of intelligent signals, road reorganization for integration with the BRT system and the strengthening of public transport policies.
José Bento Amaral Jr., the executive manager responsible for the project at FGV Projetos, highlighted among the priorities a comprehensive technical analysis of the existing infrastructure. “A robust diagnosis is essential to guide interventions that really transform the city's urban dynamics,” he said.
The mayor of Maceió, João Henrique Caldas, emphasized the social and economic dimension of the initiative: “Urban mobility is the foundation for Maceió's sustainable development. Our commitment is to build a plan that not only improves the quality of life of the people of Maceio, but also promotes inclusion and economic growth in the city.”
Experience in Urban Mobility
Recently, FGV Projetos supported the municipality of São Carlos (SP) in its Urban Mobility Plan. The results of the work resulted in an important planning instrument, strategically aligned with the specific needs and characteristics of the city of São Carlos, and capable of meeting the principles, guidelines and objectives of the National Urban Mobility Policy (PNMU). Its preparation included a diagnosis of the circumstances of the municipality's mobility patterns, with detailed analysis of traffic data and commuting patterns, plus a set of proposals for improvement and interventions to enhance São Carlos' urban mobility.
