Racial justice is theme of events in Rio and Sao Paulo
First meeting attended by FGV Sao Paulo Law School research center, at Casa Google, dealt with proposals for racial inclusion; second event presented partial results of “Maps of Injustice” project.

Last month, researchers from the Center for Racial Justice and Law at the FGV Sao Paulo Law School took part in two important debates related to the theme of Brazil’s Black Awareness Week.
As part of a series of G20 Summit events in Rio de Janeiro, the center took part in a debate titled “Building the Future with Racial Justice, Development and Reparations” at Casa Google, where it had the opportunity to discuss the issue of racial justice, based on its own research activities and the demands of social movements.
The discussion was focused on the intersection between social and environmental development and the empowerment of black and peripheral groups in Brazil, in line with initiatives such as “G20 Favelas” and the “F20,” which highlight the challenges facing shanty towns and propose collaborative and inclusive solutions.
On November 21, the FGV Center for Racial Justice and Law took part in the launch of the partial results of the “Maps of Injustice” research project at the Pólis Institute in Sao Paulo.
During this event, researchers presented the main partial results of this project, which is aimed at creating an innovative platform to serve as a repository for up-to-date data, reports and analyses. The idea is to contribute to public debate on the main challenges facing the rule of law and the functioning of institutions, with an emphasis on intersectional racial inequalities and the impact of police killings. The aim is to offer accurate data on criminal justice and race, providing inputs for decision-makers.
